Cable bridge, Punakha Dzong, Bhutan

5 Oct 2005

The most wonderful location, wonderful light and air, and the most colourful traffic on this bridge. But only the far ends were stable enough for photography.

Prayer flags, Darjeeling

15 Aug 2005

There is something ecstatic about a hill-top full of prayer flags waving away in the clear breeze and sun. I could have spent all day here, but our half hour seemed to zip by in seconds.

Golf-course morning, Pennsylvania

26 Aug 2006

One early, rainy and very damp morning in Pocono Pines. It was a gorgeous walk, with magic on every blade of grass and tree leaf.

Collingwood, North Island

16 Mar 2006

Sheep stream out of their pens with the encouragement of sheep dogs. The rolling fields of grass are lovely, but they are deserts compared to the native forests cut down to make pasture land.

Kinleith works, Tirau

23 Mar 2006

The rainy skies parted to allow light onto the landscape. Fortunately we were just passing the paper-mill and screeched to a halt. I jumped out, and shot through the rain. Fortunately, the brilliant rainbow 180ΒΌ from this scene did not distract me. Barely 60 seconds later, the clouds came together.

Lang's Beach, Whangarei

17 Feb 2007

One of my favourite places, Lang's Beach has been nearly ruined by rows of vast houses and carved up by tractors pulling tinnies (small boats). But it's still gorgeous, with fabulous views and safe swimming. New Zealand's clear light is a never-ending dance.

Motueka River, Buller's River, South Island

16 Mar 2006

Nets protect fruit crop from birds. Ironically most of these birds are introduced species. And worse, that year fruit prices were so low and labour so costly, it was cheaper to let fruit rot on the trees than pick them.

Omaru Beach, Tauranga, New Zealand

5 Mar 2008

One of my first caterpillar views, and stil one of the most successful in revealing more than I ever expected. This is a lovely beach backed by not very pretty, unbroken line of beach houses and motels.

Tora Coast, North Island, New Zealand

16 Feb 2009

Kiwis like panoramic windows, and here on the Tora Coast, just north of Wellington, big windows open out to big landscapes. But note the land in the background: it is denuded and bare of trees. In fact it's fast washing into the sea thanks to extensive de-forestation.
