This is one of the most stylish from the Mexico shoot, which only shows I had a long way to go. If I'd been able to shoot it digitally, I'd have extracted way more shadow detail, but this was Kodachrome 64.

Much more by good luck than skill, I found a village in Costa Chica full of Spanish-speaking Africans living in bandas that you'd find in Africa. They were very friendly and hospitable. But I was running out of film, money and time so I stayed only one or two nights.

Dawn, Costa Chica coast, Mexico

I braved walking through the commuter lines of a hornet's nest to get to the coast, and was glad I did. I was running out of film, and shot only two or three versions. This one was sold to Air France for a cover, which paid for nearly the whole trip to Mexico. Wooo!
